The product
During the 1930s, Eero Saarinen introduced a series of plywood chairs distinguished by their organic shapes. These chairs garnered success by winning the MoMA-sponsored 1940 Organic Design in Home Furnishings competition. This achievement propelled Saarinen to create a chair focused on offering exceptional comfort solely through its shell, rather than relying on additional upholstery. The luxurious and sculptural Executive Side Chair, along with its counterpart, the Executive Armchair, emerged from this vision. Notably, the design received recognition by winning the 1969 Museum of Modern Art Award and the West Germany Federal Award for Industrial Design.
